Looking for a healthy vegan burger option? So many brands sneak in chemicals and non-organic and unpronounceable ingredients. But what if I told you that there’s a company that not only is it vegan & organic, but also is soy-free, gluten-free, corn-free, nut-free? Most vegan recipes call for nuts and products that contain gluten. It’s nice to see that there are tasty options out there for everyone. Amazing right?
Previously known as Qrunch Foods, Qrunch Organics is here to show their commitment to Organic Food & Veganism. When I saw this burger at my local health food market, I knew I had to try these & jumped at the opportunity for a collaboration with the brand. One of my missions with this blog since the beginning has been to veganize Puerto Rican food, and today I’m giving you that! A Puerto Rican Quinoa Burger! Probably the most Puerto Rican Veganized recipe that I’ve worked at.
But how? Well, more on that in a second…
About the Brand
Qrunch Organics is proudly an allergy friendly, veggie burger alternative that doesn’t compromise the flavor; which to be honest, there aren’t many around. There are several flavors to choose from: original, spicy Italian, green chili & buffalo-style. For today’s recipe, we’re sticking with their original flavor. With clean & organic ingredients like: millet, quinoa, onions, carrots, broccoli, spinach, and more, you’re bound to stay full for a couple of hours. Right now in Puerto Rico, I’ve only seen their burgers. But I’m also dying to find here Qrunch Organics other products like their breakfast patty options that resemble french toast Let me know if you see them somewhere around here, please!
The Recipe
As soon as the opportunity for a collaboration came up, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this veggie burger. I knew I had to veganize our Puerto Rican Burger.
Why use regular burger buns when I can use tostones de pana (fried breadfruit plantains? Bear with me with this translation) instead. Burger sauce? NOPE. How about some vegan traditional mayoketchup? Complete with some onion, iceberg lettuce, tomatoes & avocado, and some fries as a side.
How to: Well the burger cooks itself in 3-4 minutes on the stove, and I just season it with salt & pepper. And both the fries & breadfruit tostones were made in the air fryer. If you have no experience working with breadfruit, here’s how to make breadfruit tostones. Also if you can’t find breadfruit where you live, you can always sub for regular fried plantains or burger buns. I had my burger with the mayoketchup, and Dann had his with BBQ.
