VeggieJeva’s version of a Harry Potter drink: Witches Brew- Pumpkin Juice. The perfect drink for fall; you can make it as a juice or as a cocktail, super tasty & unique!
Every October I watch Mean Girls, The Nightmare Before Christmas and top it off with my favorite, a Harry Potter Marathon. For me, this is a Halloween tradition. I love the Harry Potter series so much, and I can’t wait to go back to Orlando to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
The first time that I visited, I tried all the Harry Potter Universe snacks that I’ve always wanted to try from the books. And they did not disappoint! Two of the things that I particularly liked, were the pumpkin juice & butterbeer; only the pumpkin juice is vegan. Unfortunately, I live nowhere near Orlando, so I’ve had to take matters into my own hands and make a copycat recipe: Witches Brew- Pumpkin Juice.
Sorry, no Butterbeer; I couldn’t bring myself to make such a sugary drink. It’s so sweet that one glass is usually enough for more than one person to share.
The Witches Brew-Pumpkin Juice, on the other hand, is super tasty. So I played with a recipe and came up with something that is pretty close to what you find at Islands of Adventures, but obviously vegan. It has a smooth pumpkin flavor with a little bit of spice. This would definitely make the perfect drink to have during the fall or for a Harry Potter themed party.
How to: The pumpkin juice base? Even better than the stuff at Universal, or at least that’s what I like to think… maybe J.K. Rowling has a different idea (I’m curious now). Anyways onto the recipe: a combination of apple cider, pumpkin puree, agave nectar, pumpkin spice & vanilla does the trick. And the best part? You can make this into a cocktail by adding bourbon whiskey, and you’ll have Spiked Pumpkin Juice!
Notes:
- The pumpkin puree that you buy should only have one ingredient: pumpkin. No added sugar, oils or preservatives.
- For the cocktail: add 1.5oz of bourbon whiskey per serving.
- If you can’t find apple cider or just don’t like it, try this recipe with apple juice instead. Just make sure to skip the agave, as juice can already have sugar.
- I love it cold over ice, but try heating some up in a mug during the morning (only if you use apple juice instead of cider).
- Can’t find pumpkin spice? Use a combination of cinnamon, allspice, and nutmeg.
Now, who’s up for a Harry Potter Marathon?
