For the past 3 months, the economy has been trembling, affecting small businesses. Here’s what we can do to help small & local businesses stay afloat.
Are you looking for ways to help small businesses during the COVID-19 lockdown/quaratine?
Lockdown is hitting many of us around the world hard physically and mentally. It’s undeniable that for the past 3 months, the economy has been trembling. Small business owners and frontline workers are balancing being productive while staying safe (and keeping others safe) at the same time.
Many people have lost their jobs or have been forced to close their businesses temporarily with no idea as to when they will be able to re-open, others have lost their businesses permanently due to loss of finances or irrevocable changes within their industries.
I’ve compiled a couple of things that we can do to help small & local businesses stay afloat. Even if money’s a little tight right now, there are ways to support.
Ways to Support
- Shop/order online: Most stores & restaurants are offering their services online, even if they hadn’t been doing so before the pandemic. Continue supporting small businesses by choosing to order through their websites or their chosen ordering platform.
- Buy local produce: Instead of heading to a big supermarket chain, keep things directly from farmers or small markets. Choosing to spend your money at local businesses will help keep them running.
- Buy gift cards: Now, more than ever, it’s pretty hard getting gifts for our families and friends. Don’t stress out, many small businesses have started offering gift cards that can be used either right away or as soon as they open back up.
- Leave reviews: I totally understand if you’re spending money mindfully right now or if you don’t need a product. However, if you have bought a product or service from a small business, make sure to leave a review (Google Business, Yelp, Facebook, etc.) and or refer them to others. This is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to support your favorite businesses.
- Feature businesses on your platforms: If you have a platform with an audience, use that to promote your favorite businesses. I’ve been sharing some of my favorite brands on social media & on the blog, since the very beginning; but now more than ever it’s especially important to do so. For the past couple of weeks, I’ve been intentionally shouting out the small biz’s that make my life better like my favorite coffee shop & food truck. You can do it too!
